Isanti Marketing

Compass Compass Child CareIsanti · 302 Credit Union Drive NE

Twenty-three things you could do. Pick one.

This is a menu, not a to-do list. Some weeks you have ten minutes; take something Easy. When enrollment gets tight, come back for something bigger. Almost everything in the first two tiers is within a mile of your parking lot.

The Compass page, the website, the listings and anything printed or designed are Marketing’s job. Yours is what happens in person — the conversations, drop-offs and phone calls — plus sharing in your own local community groups. Need a graphic or wording? Just ask.

If you only do three things this fall

Everything else on this page can wait until you want it.

Fix this first

The listing that is not yours

Idea 01. A closed operator’s Google listing still sits at your exact address with a 2.0 rating. It is almost certainly costing you calls.

Ten minutes a week

Get to fifty reviews

Idea 02. You are at 4.0 on 27 — the lowest of the six Compass centers, and your actual reviews read like fives.

Rodeo & Jubilee Days

Idea 14. Compass has sponsored before. The sponsor deadline is May 15 and booths close June 15.

The lay of the land

Three things that shape everything below
Finding 01

A closed operator’s listing is still live at your address

Google currently shows a second child care business, Teddy Bear Care, at 302 Credit Union Drive NE — your exact address. It carries a 2.0 rating on 4 reviews, and the top review references a licensing complaint. A parent searching this address or scrolling local child care sees that listing sitting alongside yours. This is a stale Google record from a prior operator, not a reflection on Compass, and it can be reported as permanently closed. It is the single most fixable problem at this center.

Finding 02

Your rating is the lowest of the six centers, and it does not match your reviews

Compass Isanti sits at 4.0 on 27 reviews. Blaine is 4.2, Coon Rapids is 4.5, and Ramsey and North Branch are both at a perfect 5.0. Yet the reviews here are as strong as anywhere in the company — one parent describes herself as a helicopter mother who trusts nobody and still felt comfortable from day one; another has been here since their son was 12 weeks old. The gap between what people write and what the number says means a few old low reviews are carrying disproportionate weight. Volume is the fix.

Finding 03

Your 5:30 open is not a differentiator here — but your location is

Compass Isanti opens earlier than any other Compass center. In East Bethel or Blaine that would be a real advantage. In Isanti it is table stakes: Krayola Kids and Lit’l Sprouts also open at 5:30, and Community Bilingual Daycare opens at 5:00. What you do have that they do not is position — three Cambridge-Isanti schools, five churches, the town’s grocery store, two gyms and the main dental practice all sit within a mile of your door. Several ideas below are simply about walking that mile.

Quick wins

6 ideas · 5–15 minutes each

Almost no planning. Four of these are within a quarter mile of your parking lot.

From the booklet

#418 “Make sure you claim all your online listings and consider NAP — name, address, phone number.” #396 — make sure your online listings are complete and consistent. #456 — manage your online reputation so you can respond to any positive or negative comments about your center.

Here in Isanti

Search your own address and you will find Teddy Bear Care listed at 302 Credit Union Drive NE — the same building — with a 2.0 rating on 4 reviews. One of those reviews references a licensing complaint. That listing belongs to a prior operator, but a parent scrolling child care options in Isanti has no way to know that. They see a 2.0 and an allegation attached to your address, sitting a few pixels away from your 4.0. This is a records problem with a records fix.

What you actually do

This one is almost entirely ours — but it needs you to start it. Email Marketing today and say you found a closed daycare still listed at your address. If you can, add one line about what families have said to you about it, because that is the part we cannot see from here. We will file the removal with Google, escalate it through Business Profile support, and check the other directories.

Marketing will make

The removal request itself, escalation through Google Business Profile support, a check on Bing, Yelp, Care.com and Apple Maps for the same stale record, and a monthly recheck until it is gone. We will tell you when it comes down.

Why it could work

It is one email against a problem that has probably been quietly costing this center calls for years.

From the booklet

#411 “Reviews, Reviews, Reviews.” #42 — any family that does an online review gets to pick the month’s charity. #493 — how are you using parent reviews? Are they just boring testimonies that never change?

Here in Isanti

Read your reviews and they are genuinely excellent: a self-described helicopter parent who trusts almost nobody, a family who started at 12 weeks and stayed three years, a photographer who describes every room as organized and clean. Yet the headline number is 4.0 — lower than Blaine at 4.2, Coon Rapids at 4.5, and Ramsey and North Branch at 5.0. With only 27 reviews, two or three old low ones set the average. The only cure is volume, and you have the families to do it.

What you actually do

Pick ten families you know are happy — the long-tenured ones, the ones whose child just moved up a room. Hand them the QR card at pickup and say: “We’re trying to get to 50 reviews this year — would you mind leaving one? Takes about ninety seconds.” Ten a month, different families each time. Do not blast the whole roster; a personal ask converts several times better.

Marketing will make

QR review cards sized for a diaper bag, a lobby table tent, a copy-and-paste text template, a progress thermometer for the entry, and a monthly charity-jar sign so reviewers pick where the money goes.

Why it could work

Every review you add dilutes the old ones, and at 27 reviews the math moves fast.

From the booklet

#345 “Go introduce yourself to other businesses and take them a goody bag.” #384 — do you have a restaurant near you that is not a chain? Partner together with them on everything. #26 — partner with a local business that aligns with yours and do a giveaway.

Here in Isanti

The building directly across Credit Union Drive holds three businesses whose customers overlap almost perfectly with yours:

  • The Healthy Hideaway — 303 Credit Union Dr NE. Teas and shakes, 4.6 on 47 reviews, open at 6:00 AM. Reviewers name the staff and describe it as a place people stop to talk. This is the one to start with.
  • Paul Bergley, DC — 303 Credit Union Dr NE, Suite 6. 4.8 rating, and one review specifically describes bringing a newborn in after a NICU stay.
  • Domino’s Pizza — 303 Credit Union Dr NE, Suite 4.

What you actually do

Walk over with a plate of cookies. At the Healthy Hideaway say: “Hi — we’re the child care center right across the drive. Would you be open to swapping flyers? Yours in our lobby, ours on your counter.” A shake shop and a child care center share the same 6:00 AM parent, and swaps like this cost nothing on either side. Do Bergley the same week; he is a natural referral source for infant families.

Marketing will make

A counter card built for a coffee-and-shake counter, a lobby flyer for their side, a co-branded social graphic they can post, and a partner-swap one-pager so the ask is easy to say yes to.

Why it could work

They are seventy yards away, they see your families every morning, and nobody has to drive anywhere.

From the booklet

#306 “Hang up flyers at local stores your target market would visit.” #362 — when you go grocery shopping, wear your company t-shirt. Quick Tip p.25 — many local stores and libraries have community bulletin boards.

Here in Isanti

Coborn’s Grocery at 209 6th Ave NE · ~0.28 mi is the town’s grocery store, with a bakery, deli and pharmacy, and 1,827 Google reviews — in a city of about 6,500 people, that number tells you everyone shops there. Reviewers describe staff who know customers by name. Kwik Trip #1019 at 400 E Dual Blvd NE · ~0.19 mi is open 24 hours and catches the commuters leaving town at 5:30.

What you actually do

Fold it into a grocery run you were making anyway. Ask customer service: “Do you have a community board where I could post a flyer?” Post one at each. Wear a Compass shirt while you do it. Set a reminder to refresh both in two months, since small-town boards fill up fast.

Marketing will make

Board flyers sized to their posting rules with tear-off tabs, and nice logo jackets and polos so the errand doubles as advertising.

Why it could work

Two boards cover essentially every household in Isanti, and it costs one errand you were already running.

From the booklet

#224 “Include something special in the mundane — your outgoing voicemail, your email signature.” #298 — put your latest special in your voicemail. #326 — let the phone ring only once. #142 — respond to online inquiries within an hour during business hours.

Here in Isanti

This matters more here than usual because of Finding 01. If a parent finds the wrong listing, calls a dead number, and gives up, you never learn they existed. Every channel that does reach you needs to work perfectly.

What you actually do

Re-record the voicemail this week: your name, “we open at 5:30,” the age groups with openings, and “leave your name and I’ll call you back today.” Marketing will send you a branded email signature to paste in — that one is on us. Then hold one rule — every inquiry gets a response the same business day, even if it is only “Got it, calling you this afternoon.”

Marketing will make

A voicemail script you can read word for word, a branded email signature with a tour link, and a one-page phone script with the three questions that turn a call into a booked tour.

Why it could work

Leads you have already paid to generate are the cheapest enrollments in the building.

From the booklet

#438 “Do a Google 360-shoot to share on social media for a full online tour of your facility.” #165 — evaluate the artwork on your walls; is there too much clutter? #605 — what does your vestibule entrance look like? Are you making a welcoming impression?

Here in Isanti

You sit on Credit Union Drive rather than directly on Highway 65, which means you get far less accidental drive-by than the Blaine or East Bethel centers. Families here find you online first and visit second. That makes photographs do more work at this center than at any of the others.

What you actually do

On a bright morning, tidy first, then take fifteen photos on your phone: the entrance, each classroom, the playground, the sign-in area, a bulletin board, the front of the building from the parking lot. Send them to Marketing — that is the whole task. While you are outside, add one photo of your signage from the Credit Union Drive entrance so we can see what a first-time visitor sees. We do the uploading and the listings.

Marketing will make

Photo cleanup and cropping, upload across Google, Bing, Yelp and Care.com, a written business description, updated signage if the entrance photo shows a problem, and a quarterly reminder to refresh.

Why it could work

When people cannot stumble across your building, the listing has to do the stumbling for you.

Medium

Meet the neighbors

7 ideas · 20–45 minutes each

You are in the densest, most walkable pocket of any Compass center. Most of these are a short drive or an actual walk.

From the booklet

#3 “Partner with your local school district. Get to know their needs — even if it is just to bring them survival treats.” #221 — market school days off and ask the local schools to help you promote. #955 — give teachers in your local school district survival kits at the beginning of the school year.

Here in Isanti

No other Compass center has this. Three ISD 911 buildings sit within two-thirds of a mile:

  • Isanti Primary School — 301 County Rd 5 · ~0.54 mi.
  • Isanti Elementary School — 421 Heritage Blvd · ~0.55 mi.
  • Isanti Intermediate School — 101 9th Ave NE · ~0.63 mi.

Between them they hold the entire elementary-age population of this town, and their offices field “where do I find before and after care” questions constantly.

What you actually do

Do all three in one August morning. Drop a treat basket at each front office with a card that only says thank you — no pitch attached. Two weeks later, call each and ask: “Do you keep a list of nearby child care options for families who ask? We would love to be on it.” Then pull the Cambridge-Isanti calendar, mark every non-school day, and post your school-age openings two weeks ahead of each one.

Marketing will make

Staff treat-basket cards, a one-page “Compass Isanti at a glance” sheet for each office, school-release-day flyers pre-dated to the actual ISD 911 calendar, and a social graphic for every no-school day.

Why it could work

Three offices, one morning, and school-release days fill spots without signing a single new family.

From the booklet

#363 “Partner with a local welcome wagon group and have your brochures and information sent to new families that move into the area.” #314 — work with a local coupon company to be included in a new family welcome basket.

Here in Isanti

Five rental communities sit inside a mile, and the two closest are essentially neighbors:

  • Isanti Village I — 200 Heritage Blvd NE · ~0.12 mi. Reviewers name the landlord, Don, repeatedly and describe families staying seven years.
  • Isanti Village II — 102 Dahlin Ave SE · ~0.21 mi. Same operator; one review is from a single mother who lived there while getting back on her feet.
  • Park Brook Apartments — 810 7th Ave NE · ~0.79 mi. 4.8 rating; the property manager, Brandy, is named in every review.
  • The Commons on Whiskey Road — 308 Whiskey Rd SW · ~0.83 mi.
  • Rum River Condos — 610 Whiskey Rd NW · ~0.88 mi.

What you actually do

Start with the two Isanti Village buildings — same management, one conversation covers both. Ask for the manager and say: “Do you give new residents a welcome packet? I’d love to leave a few cards for families with young kids.” Leave a stack either way. Then do one more property a month; four short visits spread out are easier to sustain than four in a week. Write the manager’s name in your phone each time.

Marketing will make

A “Your Neighbors at Compass” card built for renters, acrylic counter holders, an intro script, and a follow-up email template for each property manager.

Why it could work

Renters move constantly, and a family moving into Isanti Village can see your building from the parking lot.

From the booklet

#293 “Advertise in a church bulletin!” #189 — consider how you are partnering with churches in the community; they are often hosting family events you can participate in. #87 — work with church youth groups.

Here in Isanti

Five congregations sit within about a mile, and the closest is also the strongest fit:

  • New Hope Community Church — 114 Dahlin Ave NE · ~0.20 mi. 4.9 on 73 reviews, and reviews specifically praise the kids ministry and community involvement.
  • The Journey New Life Church — 601 Heritage Blvd NE · ~0.38 mi. Reviewers describe children asking to go back.
  • Faith Lutheran Church — 109 2nd Ave NW · ~0.43 mi. Also hosts the Jubilee Days Kiddie Parade registration — see Idea 14.
  • St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic — 207 Whiskey Rd NW · ~0.92 mi. Active faith formation program and a Lenten fish fry.
  • Generations Community Church — 201 Centennial Dr NW · ~1.07 mi.

What you actually do

Pick two, not five. Start with New Hope because it is closest and most family-oriented. Call the office midweek and ask: “Do you sell bulletin advertising, and do you ever let local family businesses leave information at children’s check-in?” Bulletin ads at churches this size are inexpensive and usually run a full year.

Marketing will make

Bulletin ads sized to each spec, a children’s check-in counter card, and a VBS or family-night sponsorship one-pager if either offers it.

Why it could work

A bulletin reaches the same local families every week for a year, and in a town of 6,500 those families all know each other.

From the booklet

#292 “Have a roll of stickers printed and donate to a doctor or dentist office to give away to kids.” #346 — create a coloring book and give it to local doctors and dentists with crayons for their waiting rooms. #172 — partner with a lactation specialist.

Here in Isanti

  • Isanti Family Dental — 401 Cherrywood St NE · ~0.15 mi. 4.8 on 645 reviews, which in a town this size means most families in Isanti have sat in that waiting room. They also sponsor Jubilee Days, so you would be in good company.
  • Ohana Chiropractic and Wellness — 4 Enterprise Ave NE · ~0.82 mi. Perfect 5.0 on 64 reviews, and reviewers specifically mention a kid area with toys and books.
  • Nature’s Way Chiropractic — 2 Enterprise Ave NE · ~0.82 mi. Reviews describe care through pregnancy and then adjusting the baby — a direct line to families about to need infant care.
  • Paul Bergley, DC — 303 Credit Union Dr NE · ~0.07 mi. Already covered in Idea 03.

What you actually do

Call the office manager, not the front desk during the rush: “We’re a child care center up the road — would you have any use for free stickers or coloring pages for your waiting room? No cost, no strings.” Nobody turns down free supplies for kids. Deliver in person so you meet someone. At Nature’s Way, ask specifically whether their expecting patients would find an infant-care planning card useful.

Marketing will make

Sticker rolls, a Compass coloring sheet with a maze on the back, crayon packs, a counter display, and an “Expecting? Here’s when to start looking for infant care” card for the prenatal practices.

Why it could work

Isanti Family Dental alone puts your name in more local parents’ hands than any flyer campaign could.

From the booklet

#294 “Work with a local coffee shop and see if they will use your branded coffee sleeves advertising an enrollment special.” #451 — partner with a local coffee shop and tag each other on social media. #384 — find the non-chain business near you and partner on everything.

Here in Isanti

Rendezvous Coffee at 310 Dahlin Ave NE · ~0.22 mi is a house converted into a coffee shop, 4.7 on 421 reviews, with a drive-through and a 5:30 AM open. It is the local favorite and it is not a chain. Caribou at 260 5th Ave NE · ~0.14 mi also opens at 5:30 and one review literally asks them to open earlier for the commute into the cities. Those two drive-through lines at 5:35 in the morning are full of the exact parents who need a center that opens at 5:30.

What you actually do

Rendezvous first, because a locally owned shop can say yes without asking a region manager. Go mid-morning, ask for the owner, and offer branded coffee sleeves: “We’d pay for sleeves with both our logos on them. You get free sleeves, we get seen by the same people who are already up at 5:30.” That is a genuinely good deal for them.

Marketing will make

Co-branded coffee sleeves at our cost, a counter card, a social graphic they can post, and a small giveaway if they will let you do a morning on their patio.

Why it could work

It reaches commuting parents at 5:35 in the morning, which is the precise moment they are thinking about the day’s logistics.

From the booklet

#372 “Share flyers with a karate place to give to their families. Offer a special.” #215 — if you have a trampoline park near you, consider ways to cross market. #405 — partner with a local business and share their content and ask them to do the same of yours.

Here in Isanti

My Jungle Gym at 16 Main St W · ~0.30 mi is an indoor play space with a ninja course, birthday parties and toddler classes; reviewers describe it as perfect for one-to-three-year-olds on a cold Minnesota day. Isanti Grappling Club at 101 Isanti Pkwy NE · ~0.66 mi holds a perfect 5.0 on 24 reviews, runs kids and teen classes, and even offers a homeschool class on Tuesday mornings.

What you actually do

Offer a straight trade and lead with what you are giving: “Would you like your flyer in our lobby? We have families through the door every day. I’d ask the same in return.” No money changes hands. My Jungle Gym is the better first call — it is closer, it is aimed at younger children, and the owners work the floor themselves so you will talk to a decision-maker.

Marketing will make

A lobby flyer that reads at a glance, a partner-swap one-pager, a co-branded social graphic, and a birthday-party insert if My Jungle Gym will include one in their party packets.

Why it could work

Their customers are parents of children the same age as yours, sitting in a lobby with nothing to read.

From the booklet

#360 “Rent a booth at your local farmers market. Consider selling artwork your children make. Invite families to participate in the booth with you.” #374 — face paint anywhere there are kids. #308 — host a booth at community events with games that appeal to the kids you are targeting.

Here in Isanti

The Neighborhood Market runs Fridays from 1 to 6 PM at the Isanti Rodeo Grounds, 500 3rd Ave NW, through mid-October. It carries well over fifty vendors plus food trucks — produce, baked goods, decor, gifts. Friday afternoon is a family time slot, and 1 to 6 overlaps the end of your day, which means a booth here does not require a weekend from anyone.

What you actually do

Walk it once as a customer before committing to anything — go on a Friday and see the crowd for yourself. If it looks right, call 612-222-2916 about vendor space for the rest of the season or for next year. When you do book, bring something for kids to do at the table; a booth that occupies a four-year-old for five minutes buys you five minutes with the parent.

Marketing will make

A booth kit with tablecloth, sign and canopy, a simple kids activity, a drawing entry form for lead capture, giveaways, and the vendor application handled.

Why it could work

It is a weekly, recurring, family-heavy crowd less than a mile away, and the time slot does not cost anyone a Saturday.

Hard

Go find new families

6 ideas · 1–4 hours each

Seeking out partnerships and leads. Isanti has more organized civic life per capita than any of our other towns — this tier is where that pays off.

From the booklet

#18 “Get involved in the local 4th of July parade — have families dress up and walk in the parade and hand out goodie bags.” #38 — enter a float in the parade and give away fun candy, toys and swag. #4 — participate in and attend local festivals and kids’ events. #47 — donate branded prizes or a gift basket to local fundraisers.

Here in Isanti

Isanti Rodeo & Jubilee Days runs July 9–12, 2026 — the 50th annual Isanti Firefighters Rodeo — presented by the North 65 Chamber of Commerce and the Isanti Firefighters Rodeo Association. Compass Child Care appears in past Jubilee Days schedules as a sponsor, so a relationship already exists to build on. The pieces that matter for a child care center:

  • The Parade — Thursday evening, down 1st Avenue and Main Street. Staff and families walking with a banner and handing out candy is the highest-value, lowest-cost entry available.
  • The Kiddie Parade — registration and judging in the Faith Lutheran parking lot on Community Day. A child care center sponsoring the children’s parade is about as natural a fit as exists.
  • Community Day booths — 9am–2pm Saturday on Main Street and in the City Hall and Community Center lots, alongside the craft fair, food trucks and BMX balance bike races.
  • Fireworks at Bluebird Park — 201 Isanti Pkwy NW, about 0.75 miles from you.

The deadlines are real and early: sponsors register by May 15 for full promotional benefits; parade entries, booths and race entries close June 15.

What you actually do

Call the North 65 Chamber at 763-689-2505 or email [email protected], and ask one question: “What are the sponsorship levels for Jubilee Days, and which pieces are still open?” Then ask specifically about sponsoring the Kiddie Parade. Bring what they tell you back to Marketing — you do not have to commit on the call. Mark May 15 and June 15 in your calendar now.

Marketing will make

Parade banner and walking signs, branded giveaway candy and swag, a booth kit, Kiddie Parade sponsorship materials, all registration paperwork handled, and a social push before and after.

Why it could work

Four days in July put you in front of a larger share of Isanti than everything else on this page combined, and Compass already has a foot in the door.

From the booklet

#20 “Join your local Chamber of Commerce.” #317 — host a ribbon cutting with your local Chamber to rededicate your center. #284 — does your community chamber publish a business directory or map you can be a part of? #358 — give your local chamber a pile of your brochures to hand out to new businesses.

Here in Isanti

The North 65 Chamber of Commerce (763-689-2505) is the organizing body for this whole corridor — it presents Jubilee Days, and its sponsor lists read like a directory of everyone worth knowing: Isanti Family Dental, Coborn’s, Minnco Credit Union, Cambridge Medical Center, Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Embrace Orthodontics. Half the businesses named elsewhere on this page are already members, which means one membership puts you in the same room as most of your referral targets.

What you actually do

Call and ask two things: “What does membership cost, and what are your regular networking events?” Then attend one before deciding anything. If Compass Isanti has had a remodel, an anniversary or a new program, ask about a ribbon cutting — it is a free press moment and the Chamber does the promoting.

Marketing will make

Chamber directory listing copy and imagery, a ribbon-cutting kit with invitations, signage and a photographer, networking business cards, and a written 60-second introduction you can deliver without freezing.

Why it could work

In a town this size, the Chamber is not one channel among many — it is the room where the referral sources already gather.

From the booklet

#6 “Partner with a local gym and invite them to host a class for current parents.” #296 “Gym dressing rooms are great for flyers.” #26 — partner with a local business that aligns with yours and do a giveaway. #646 — host an after-hours fitness class for parents and their children.

Here in Isanti

  • Anytime Fitness — 120 Heritage Blvd NE · ~0.17 mi. 4.6 on 74 reviews, and the closest of the three.
  • Pump Republic Gym — 687 E Dual Blvd NE · ~0.53 mi. 4.7 on 27, recently expanded, and reviewers describe owners actively investing and listening to members — the kind of owner who says yes.
  • Snap Fitness Isanti — 404 Whiskey Rd NW · ~0.84 mi. Shares a building with Lit’l Sprouts, so tread thoughtfully there.

What you actually do

Start at Pump Republic — owner-operated, growing, and the reviews suggest someone who likes partnerships. Propose a straight swap: their flyer in your lobby, yours in their locker room, and a social shout-out from each business — Marketing writes and posts ours, you just get the yes. If it goes well, offer a joint giveaway basket — a month of membership plus a Compass registration credit.

Marketing will make

Locker-room and counter flyers, a co-branded giveaway graphic, entry cards, and a partner-swap one-pager so the ask is low-commitment.

Why it could work

Gyms are full of parents in exactly the “I need to get my life organized” frame of mind, and 24-hour gyms skew toward the early risers who need a 5:30 open.

From the booklet

#993 “Find out where families work and ask if you can post flyers at their companies for enrollment and recruiting purposes.” #282 — find out the professions your families work in. #180 — define how you can be flexible in the child care schedules you offer.

Here in Isanti

Isanti is a commuter town on Highway 65 and that shapes everything. Two groups worth reaching: local employers — Coborn’s (the town’s largest retail employer, open 6 AM to 10 PM), Cambridge Medical Center / Allina Health about 5 miles north with 24-hour shifts and its own North 65 Chamber membership, Minnco Credit Union, and the ISD 911 schools themselves — and the commuters, who leave before 6:00 and are the reason your 5:30 open exists.

What you actually do

Do the ten-minute version first, because it is the part that works. Pull your roster and write down where each parent works — booklet #282. Wherever two or more families share an employer, you have a warm introduction: ask one of those parents whether their HR or office manager would allow a break-room flyer or a mention in an internal newsletter. That converts far better than cold-calling Cambridge Medical Center, and it costs you nothing.

Marketing will make

Break-room flyers that lead with the 5:30 open, an employer one-pager on early-open child care as a retention benefit, an HR intro email template, and an employee priority-waitlist structure if leadership approves one.

Why it could work

One break-room flyer reaches hundreds of parents at once, and a 5:30 open is the specific thing a commuting parent cannot find easily.

From the booklet

#387 “Partner with local real estate agent(s) to give your brochures to families touring homes in the area.” #186 — partner with mortgage lenders; give them treats at the bank and enrollment care packages for new family home buyers. #363 — partner with a welcome wagon group.

Here in Isanti

Isanti grows on outward migration from the metro — families trading a shorter commute for a bigger yard. A family that just bought here has a hard deadline to solve child care and no local network to ask. Minnco Credit Union is 0.12 miles away and does local mortgage lending; it is also a North 65 Chamber member, which gives you a natural introduction through Idea 15.

What you actually do

Pick two agents who list in Isanti and Cambridge and send one email each: “I run Compass Child Care on Credit Union Drive. When you close with a family that has young kids, would a small ‘New to Isanti’ packet from us be useful in your closing gift? We supply them free.” Deliver a box of 25 to whoever says yes and check back at 90 days. Ask Minnco the same question about their mortgage borrowers.

Marketing will make

A “New to Isanti — Family Resources” card that is genuinely useful (Bluebird Park, the schools, Jubilee Days, the Neighborhood Market, My Jungle Gym, and Compass), a closing-gift insert, and the agent email ready to send.

Why it could work

A family closing on a house here must solve child care inside 30 to 60 days, in a town where they do not yet know a soul.

From the booklet

#155 “Ever think of becoming advocates with your competitors? Share wait lists and refer each other when you are full.” #847 — do group trainings with nearby centers to cut the cost of training. #212 — find a group of child care professionals willing to be in a mastermind type group with you.

Compass Child Care East Bethel sits 9.1 miles south on Highway 65 — the same commuter corridor, and a center currently being run by three leaders sharing shifts while a director is hired. Your families and theirs overlap more than the mileage suggests, because everyone here drives that road. Right now the relationship can run in both directions: they need practical help, and you need overflow referrals.

What you actually do

Three things, agreed in one call. One: a standing overflow arrangement — when either center is full in an age group, the other gets the referral with a warm handoff rather than a phone number. Two: share hiring leads; a candidate wrong for one center is often right for the other. Three: offer to spend a half day at East Bethel walking their team through how you run tours and follow-up. That last one costs you an afternoon and is worth a great deal to a center without a director.

Marketing will make

A shared referral form so handoffs do not get lost, a joint “Compass on Highway 65” card listing both centers, and coordination with company leadership so the ask comes from Compass rather than from you personally.

Why it could work

It is free, it works in both directions, and it turns a nine-mile gap into a two-center corridor.

4 ideas · for when enrollment is the priority

More direct. For when you are ready to actively follow up and ask for the enrollment out loud.

From the booklet

#307 “Referral program to enroll new families.” #604 — host a snack party and have families invite a friend; offer the referred family a special and the referring family a tuition credit. #603 — send out mass texts offering pop-up referral specials. #515 — hold a contest for the most family referrals for the year.

Here in Isanti

Your reviews describe families who followed staff between centers and parents who tell everyone about you. That enthusiasm is currently uncaptured. And the rewards do not have to be tuition credits: Rendezvous Coffee is a quarter mile away and beloved, The Healthy Hideaway is across the drive, and Coborn’s gift cards spend at the store everyone uses. A local gift card means something here in a way a generic discount does not.

What you actually do

Launch one clear offer — referring family gets X, referred family gets Y — and then do the part most centers skip: ask out loud. At pickup, to a specific parent: “Do you know anyone looking for care right now?” Referral programs almost never fail on the incentive; they fail because nobody says the sentence. Run a “bring a friend” snack afternoon once in the fall and once in the spring.

Marketing will make

Referral cards families can hand out, the rules and reward structure written for you, a mass-text template for pop-up referral weekends, event invitations and signage, and we will arrange the local gift cards.

Why it could work

It is the strongest channel available in a town this size, and it costs nothing until it works.

From the booklet

#571 “Learn how to ask for the enrollment.” #241 — create habits in your leadership team so they are consistent following up on leads. #322 — don’t forget the importance of following up with prospective families. #288 and #289 — tour packets and branded folders. #574 — offer fresh baked cookies to every tour. #239 — make sure your teachers are trained on the importance of their role in a tour.

Here in Isanti

The least glamorous item here and almost certainly the highest-return. Every other idea on this page generates tours; this converts them. It matters more at this center than most, because with four competitors inside 1.2 miles a family who leaves undecided has three other places to visit that same afternoon.

What you actually do

Three changes, none of which require creativity. Ask before they leave the building — not “let us know,” but “Based on what you’ve told me, I’d put her in ___’s room starting the 15th. Should I hold that spot?” Follow up within 24 hours, every time, mentioning one specific thing from the tour. Keep a “didn’t enroll” list and call again at 30 and 90 days; a real share of families who choose elsewhere are unhappy by month three.

Marketing will make

Branded tour folders, a tour script with the closing question written out word for word, 24-hour follow-up email and text templates, a 30/90-day re-engagement sequence, a teacher one-pager, and video testimonials from your current families.

Why it could work

It costs nothing, it multiplies every other idea here, and your reviews already back up whatever you promise on the tour.

From the booklet

#323 “Have you toured your competition lately? We recommend doing this at least once a year.” #155 — share wait lists and refer each other when you are full. #145 — determine your unique selling proposition. #175 — evaluate your tuition prices every year; are you competitive?

No other Compass center faces a set this tight:

  • Krayola Kids Child Care Center — 750 Golden Way St NE · ~0.72 mi. Perfect 5.0 on 6 reviews, open 5:30–5:30, and reviewers describe a director who has kept staff for years.
  • Lit’l Sprouts Child Care Center — 404 Whiskey Rd NW · ~0.84 mi. 3.8 on 13, open 5:30–6:00 — a half hour later than you at the end of the day.
  • Community Bilingual Daycare — 706 Fir St SW · ~1.10 mi. Small in-home Spanish immersion program, 5.0 rating, opens at 5:00.
  • Heavenly Sunshine Preschool — 109 2nd Ave NW · ~0.43 mi. Part-day preschool at Faith Lutheran; complementary rather than competing, and a possible referral partner.

Two things stand out. Lit’l Sprouts closes at 6:00 to your 5:30 — the one place on the schedule where a competitor beats you, and worth raising with leadership. And Heavenly Sunshine is not really a rival at all; a part-day preschool and a full-day center serve different needs and can send each other families.

What you actually do

Once a year, have a friend call Krayola Kids and Lit’l Sprouts as a parent and write down rates, hours and waitlist by age. Then do the more valuable half: call Heavenly Sunshine and propose a referral relationship, and call the other two directors and offer the same on overflow. Directors say yes to this constantly — it solves a problem for them too.

Marketing will make

A comparison worksheet with all four pre-filled, a one-sentence written USP for Compass Isanti you can deliver on a tour, and a director-to-director intro email.

Why it could work

You cannot differentiate against a set you have not mapped, and on a block this tight the overflow referrals alone justify the afternoon.

From the booklet

#733 “Partner with nearby Colleges and Universities with Education programs.” #736 — host practicum students at your center and hire on after graduation. #828 — partner with the high school to provide placement and on-the-job training for their child development class. #962 — pay attention to employees at other businesses; hire based on personality and customer service.

Here in Isanti

Anoka-Ramsey Community College appears on the North 65 Chamber sponsor list, which means the introduction from Idea 15 is already half made. Its Cambridge campus is closer to you than the Coon Rapids one, and it runs early childhood coursework. Cambridge-Isanti High School and the ISD 911 district run child development classes and need placement sites. And Compass East Bethel (Idea 19) shares your candidate pool up and down Highway 65.

What you actually do

Two calls, ten minutes each. Ask the early childhood program coordinator at Anoka-Ramsey: “How do we get on your practicum placement list?” Then call the Cambridge-Isanti High School career or child development instructor and ask the same. Then one habit: ask every applicant and every new family how they heard about you, and write it down. A practicum student who has spent a semester in your building is the easiest hire you will ever make.

Marketing will make

A careers one-pager for the campus career center, a “Why Compass” recruiting flyer, campus tabling materials, hiring social content for local Facebook groups, and a practicum-host information sheet for the coordinator.

Why it could work

Every classroom you can staff is a classroom you can sell, and the college relationship starts from a warm introduction rather than a cold call.

No ideas in that group.
